ABOUT Shuri Araki
Shuri ’Shrimpy’ Araki grew up in Okinawa right on the beach. With d tropical climate and an abundance of downwind runs, Shrimpy was blessed with perfect paddling conditions all-year-round. It all started when Shrimpy used to go fishing on his SUP board to catch little reef fish. He then started downwinding when he was 8 years old when his father and coach, Taku, took him out. The Araki family has been organising SUP races in the local community for the last 10 years. When Shrimpy was little, he was following all of his father’s friends but has now become one of the fastest paddlers in his community. Shrimpy has since taken the racing scene by storm. He was the youngest person to have ever finished the Molokai2Oahu race at just 13 years old and joined the APP World Tour at just 15 years old - also the youngest ever. In the 2022 US Open of SUP, Shrimpy placed 4th overall and is expected to make a lot of waves on the rest of the 2022 Tour.
